Best Performing (Speed & Memory Usage) of Popular Free Antivirus

In the beginning of February 2010, Raymond did a nice test (benchmark) many Antivirus/security product. This test include free version, pro and Internet Security. You can see the global test result of 106 product directly from his blog.

So here I present the summary the best performing (speed and Memory usage) of popular Free Antivirus.

For detail (all) result, please visit directly to the article, Best Performing (Speed and Memory Usage) Antivirus and Internet Security for 2010.

Actually Raymond did 7 test :

  • Application Launch Time
  • Boot time Increase
  • Idle Memory Usage
  • Peak Memory Usage
  • Installation Size
  • Detection
  • Full Scan Time

Here I just pick 6 Criteria : Application launch time, Boot time Increase, Idle Memory usage, Peak Memory Usage, Installation Size and Full Scan time. Because in Detection test, only Spyware Terminator that can block sample virus. As what Raymond said that Idle Memory Usage maybe inaccurate, because a lot of product is able to clean its memory usage. But it doesn’t matter. And also maybe there is still other free antivirus, but I just pick what I know and think popular.

Launch Application Time
Open 10 web browser (mozilla firefox) and then count the average time needed.

Boot Time Increase
How antivirus affected the boot time

Idle Memory Usage

Peak Memory Usage

Installation Size

Full Scan Time

Thank to raymond for his Test.
